Confession #8

 This Troubled Mind of Mine

My old man loved Woody and Arlo Guthrie. They, and Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and Peter, Paul and Mary, et al., were ever present background music of my childhood.

But he absolutely hated Buck Owens and The Buckaroos. But I love Buck Owens and The Buckaroos. This was just one of the many, many things we just could never see eye to on.

So I find it very funny, indeed, that all these years later I discover that backing up Arlo on this track---a favorite of my father--- is none other that The Buckaroos! And as I listen to it now, with this new insight, it has never sounded quite so good---or so sweet. In fact, I think it just might be a new favorite!

  1. I bumped into him when he was coming off the elevator at the Mallory Hotel in Portland about 10 years ago. He had that look in his eye, that early Sunday morning, that begged me not to say anything. We had both come to the lobby to get the Sunday New York Times. His hair is completely gray and he is a tall tall boy. Easily 6'3". So we both nodded and went about our business. His tour bus was in the hotel parking lot. Seemed like a super nice guy.
